USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6), a Wasp class amphibious assault ship, was commissioned at Ingalls Shipbuilding in August 1998 and served in the Pacific Fleet as the flagship of Amphibious Ready Groups. Bonhomme Richard deployed throughout the Pacific and Indian Oceans supporting Marine Expeditionary Unit operations, humanitarian missions including relief operations following the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, and exercises with Pacific allies.
