USS Cobia (SS-245) was a Gato-class submarine that completed six war patrols in the Pacific Theater during World War II, earning four battle stars and sinking approximately 16,835 tons of enemy shipping, including cargo vessels, tankers, and armed ships. After decommissioning in 1946 and a brief period of recommissioning for training duties in the early 1950s, she served as a training platform at Milwaukee from 1959 until struck from the Naval Register in 1970. Since 1970, Cobia has been preserved as a museum ship at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986.
