USS Halibut (SS-232) was a Gato-class submarine commissioned in April 1942 and saw extensive combat operations in the Pacific Theater. During seven war patrols between 1942 and 1943, she sank multiple Japanese merchant vessels and damaged naval auxiliaries and warships including attacks on the escort carrier Un'yō and light cruiser Nachi. The vessel served as a testbed for torpedo modifications and conducted combat operations off the Aleutian Islands, Japan's home islands, and the Central Pacific.
