USS Lionfish (SS-298) was a Balao-class submarine that completed one full war patrol in the Pacific Theater in 1945, conducting lifeguard operations and engaging Japanese submarines before the end of World War II. After decommissioning in January 1946, she was recommissioned from 1951 to 1953 for training cruises on the East Coast. Preserved in her original World War II configuration, Lionfish was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986 and is now on display as a museum ship at Battleship Cove in Fall River, Massachusetts.
