USS Simpson (FFG-56) was an Oliver Hazard Perry-class guided-missile frigate commissioned in 1985 at Naval Station Newport. The ship served extensively in the Persian Gulf, Mediterranean, and Eastern Atlantic during the Cold War and post-Cold War era, participating in Operation Earnest Will, Operation Praying Mantis (in which she helped sink the Iranian patrol boat Joshan), counter-narcotics operations, and various NATO exercises. Simpson was decommissioned in September 2015 as the final Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate in active U.S. Navy service and was sunk in a SINKEX operation in September 2025.
