USS Downes (FF-1070) was the 19th Knox-class frigate, commissioned in August 1971 and operated primarily with the Pacific Fleet performing anti-submarine warfare, escort duty, and naval diplomacy missions through Destroyer Squadron 31. The ship was decommissioned in June 1992, struck from the Naval Vessel Register in January 1995, and was sunk as a target ship during a SINKEX exercise near Mare Island in 2003.
